چکیده

Visualizing molecular transformations in real-time requires a structural retrieval method with Ångström spatial and femtosecond temporal atomic resolution. Imaging of hydrogen-containing molecules additionally an imaging sensitive to the positions hydrogen nuclei, most methods possessing relatively low sensitivity scattering. Laser-induced electron diffraction (LIED) is table-top technique that can image ultrafast changes gas-phase polyatomic sub-Ångström spatiotemporal resolution together high Here, we umbrella motion isolated ammonia molecule (NH3) following its strong-field ionization. Upon ionization neutral molecule, cation (NH3+) undergoes geometrical transformation from pyramidal ( ? HNH = 107 °) planar 120 structure approximately 8 femtoseconds. Using LIED, retrieve near-planar 117 ± 5 field-dressed NH3+ 7.8 ? 9.8 femtoseconds after Our measured excellent agreement our calculated equilibrium using quantum chemical ab initio calculations.

Imaging ultrafast dynamics of molecules with laser-induced electron diffraction.

We introduce a laser-induced electron diffraction method (LIED) for imaging ultrafast dynamics of small molecules with femtosecond mid-infrared lasers. When molecules are placed in an intense laser field, both low- and high-energy photoelectrons are generated. According to quantitative rescattering (QRS) theory, high-energy electrons are produced by a rescattering process where electrons born a...

Ultracold Electron Source for Ultrafast Electron Diffraction

Single-shot ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) was introduced as a viable way to measure ultrafast processes, such as structural transitions in materials. For UED, the dynamics in a sample are induced by a femtosecond laser pulse and ultrashort electron bunches are used to probe the ultrafast processes in the sample. The ultracold charged particle cloud (UCPC) source researched in this work i...

Laser-induced electron tunneling and diffraction.

Molecular structure is usually determined by measuring the diffraction pattern the molecule impresses on x-rays or electrons. We used a laser field to extract electrons from the molecule itself, accelerate them, and in some cases force them to recollide with and diffract from the parent ion, all within a fraction of a laser period. Here, we show that the momentum distribution of the extracted e...
